Mary Hickey is coming back!
Saturday 2pm – She is coming home!
Arklow’s very own MARY HICKEY is returning to the town this coming Saturday. After 104 days and 1500 miles and running in the the worst weather she is finally going to be back in Arklow.
The 65 year old veteran marathon runner, is completing her Lap of the Map in aid of the RNLI. She has raised over €35,000 for these brave men and women who risk their lives in all weather.
All clubs are asked to take part in the welcome on Saturday so we are asking our members and parents to put on their Rocks colours and gather as a group to be part of home-coming! Details of times and gathering venue will be issued as soon as they are available from the organisers. ARP is proud to be associated with the RNLI and with the amazing Mary Hickey who is truly a wonderful example to our young people!
ROCKS CONQUEROR THE CROSS BORDER
After both recieving semi final bys, Arklow Rocks played host to Saint Columba’s of Kildare in the Cross Border Championship final in Pearse Park. Both sides were well prepared and eager to hurl and a highly entertaining game insued. It was nip and tuck for the start of the first half with both defences proving highly efficient especially the two O’Murchú brothers, Liam and Donnocha, who where solid in the full back line for “D Rocks”.
The break through came when the trojan center back, Kyle Byrne drove a long ball out and the nippy Tiernan Gahan got the ball and took off. He soloed through and put the ball in the roof of the net! He then added another point! St Colomba’s battled hard and soon got a goal of their own. Straight from the puck out “D rocks” battled hard through Adam O’Farrell and Aarron Keogh and the ball broke to Cian Redmond. He pulled to the back of the net, oldstyle stuff at its best. Half time score ARP 2.1 – Sr Columba’s 1.0.
The Kildare side started brightly and scored 1.1 without reply but it was like pressing a trigger for “D Rocks”. As they upped their levels through some fine plays led by the able hands of Patrick “Padge” Shaw. He put over a point worthy of the television before Adam O’Leary found his wings and took flight rattling the net and putting the Rocks back in front. Young Gahan then added another goal before Redmond struck again sealing a fine win for this very young Rocks team.
So the Cross Border Cup goes to the young men of D Rocks!
Rocks team: Kian Fluskey, Liam Murphy, Donnacha Murphy, Jamie Somers, Bartley Crummy, Kyle Byrne, Patrick Shaw, Niall Donovan, Tiernan Gahan, Paudraig Kelly, Cian Redmond, Adam O’Farrell, Bill Conors, Thomas Barnes, Fionn McDonald

Recruiting New Referees
We are looking for Rocks representative(s) to attend the REFEREE’s COURSE at Ballinakill on Tuesday 13th March @ 8-10pm.
IT’S IMPORTANT EACH CLUB HAS A REPRESENTATIVE OVER 18 YEARS (one of the management team would be a good idea) if not somebody that is selected to do this job (referee expenses of €15 from each team will be made for refereeing games)
With 48 Under-11 teams in action on Wednesday nights in 2018 along with the Under-15 programme, Wicklow will not have enough referees to complete our fixtures.
If they do not have an official referee it is the responsibility of the home club to provide the referee but this must be an official referee. This is why it is important that every club sends sends a representative in Hurling Or Football to ensure our games take place at Under-11 for 2018.
If you are interested or need more information please send us a message. TIA
