HEALTHY CLUBS

On Friday 26th April Arklow Rock Parnells in conjunction with their Healthy Clubs Team hosted Ciaran Carey of My Move counselling service and his team.

A Mental Health and drugs awareness talk was held at Glenart College Arklow in which Ciaran, Linda and George educated the attendees about the importance of good mental health and the poor decisions that can be made if your mental health is vulnerable.

Addiction of many kinds were spoke about including alcohol, pharmaceutical, illegal and prescription drugs, gambling and phone addictions which are on the increase. ARP was proud to host this talk and delighted with the young and older members of the community who attended.

Arklow Rock Parnells GAA Club signed up at the start of 2024 to become one of GAA’s Healthy Clubs. We are excited to be involved with such a wonderful initiative and look forward to hosting many activities to enhance our local community over the next 18 months.

Denise Pierce is our Health Officer and working with the Healthy Club committee started the year well organising a joint walk with another local GAA club AGB for New Years Day. It was a great success even with the wet conditions. Additionally we were able to collect a nice sum for a local charity Arklow Cancer Support at the same time.

On the 11/02/24 we joined our friends in AGB again and had another community walk with our Rowing superstars. Our team are looking quite tiny beside them. It was a gorgeous day for a walk and even better we were able to support their very deserving charities.

On the 20/02/2024 we were very proud of our Healthy Clubs committee, when Denise, Sallyann and Julieann met with Lorraine Dunne from Wicklow County Council. Lorraine presented the club with free period products to help combat period poverty.

We are delighted to say free period products will be available in our toilets for any ladies that need them. Thanks again Wicklow County Council

We have many more activities planned so watch this Space 💚🤍💚🤍
